With its ‘wonderfully argumentative’ attitude in play, the small-publisher awards program Republic of Consciousness names its roster of 13 titles. And gripes that it can be only 13.
This is the second year of operation for Germany’s Buchtrailer Awards and the third year for the UK’s Republic of Consciousness Prize for small presses. Both niche programs have opened for submissions.
The Republic of Consciousness Prize–unique for dividing the award between publishers and authors—goes to Influx Press, a six-year-old house, and to author Eley Williams.
Open to UK and Irish publishers, the Republic of Consciousness Prize honors literary fiction produced by small, independent presses with no more than five full-time employees.
