Digimarc Corporation announced that MyRecipes Easy Meal Maker (Oxmoor House) will be the second interactive cook book from MyRecipes that utilizes Digimarc Discover.

By using the free Digimarc app, readers can scan all photos to save recipes to their account and then access shopping lists right on their smartphones. (And not just shopping lists – not only are shopping lists broken down by aisle in the store, readers can also see deals on ingredients in those recipes that are specifically geotargeted. For example, users can say that they only want Wal-Mart in a specific zip code, it will show which ingredients are on sale.)

“MyRecipes Easy Meal Maker has a singular focus: make it simple for busy families to create delicious dinners any day of the week,” said Tina Imm, General Manager, Digital, Time Inc. Lifestyle Group. “We started by putting together a collection of professionally tested, top-rated, home-cook approved recipes for main dishes and sides. Next we incorporated our Scan-it/Cook-it features using Digimarc technology to make it easy for home cooks to scan the dish they’re interested in and instantly view the recipe on their mobile device, including a list of ingredients they can take to the grocery store.” ranks among the top 10 online food destinations in comScore and is home to more than 70,000 recipes and menus from Time Inc. brands including Cooking Light, Real Simple, and southern Living. MyRecipes Easy Meal maker features 150 of the highest-rated, easy recipes from all of these brands, ranging from lemon chicken to a simple lobster risotto to curried cauliflower with capers to caramel-pecan-pumpkin bread puddings.

Each of the recipes comes with a full-color photograph as well as color-coded labels that highlight the recipe’s key strength – quick and easy, good for you, or worthwhile splurge. First-time users of the Digimarc Discover mobile app and all of the associated Scan-it/Cook-it features will find a quick tutorial in the book’s table of contents.

Digimarc says that “watermarking” is an effective way to tie print to digital properties, to strengthen consumer engagement, and as a driver for online registration. “Every kind of media is going to be interactive, everyone is going to assume that they’re going to be able to scan and get more information. This is just one step.”
