What Happens While You’re Sleeping?: New Zealand is Ready to Share

In What's the Buzz by Dennis Abrams

On August 14th at 6pm in New York City, Saatchi & Saatchi will host a cocktail party in partnership with the Frankfurt Book Fair in celebration of the art, literature, and culture of New Zealand, this year’s Guest of Honor country at the Frankfurt Book Fair, October 10-14.

New Zealand’s theme at Frankfurt is “While You Were Sleeping,” to highlight the time difference and to demonstrate that, while the US has indeed been sleeping, they’ve been busy writing books, making movies, growing wine, and creating cuisine. “Manaakitanga” is the Maori concept of giving, hosting and taking care of others; so during 2012, New Zealand is sharing its writers, ideas and creativity with Germany as their way of “gifting New Zealand’s light to the rest of the world.”

The event on August 14th will feature a sampling of what publishers, media, and attendees can look forward to seeing at this fall’s Book Fair: Artwork by New Zealand designer David Trubridge; the new novel The Forrests by Emily Perkins; Guest Speaker Jane Vesty, CEO SweeneyVesty; Videos from the Publishers Association of New Zealand; and wines from Cloudy Bay Vinyards.

RSVP for the event by August 13 to Rily Stock at stock@newyork.gbo.org.
