A survey of the 1,000 largest German online retailers conducted by the EHI Retail Institute reveals that the ten largest are responsible 25% of overall online sales Germany and the top 100 are responsible for two-thirds of sales.
In comparison, according to buchreport’s recent analysis of the 50 largest German book retailers, the top 10 brick and mortar book retailers also account for nearly a quarter of total sales for the German book industry (2.4 billion euros out of a total of 9.6 billion).
Amazon.de continues to be the largest online retailer in Germany, while sales of the online retailers ranked 501 to 1,000 accounted for less than sales of Amazon.de alone.
