You’ve seen the musical Kiss Me, Kate. Perhaps you’ve seen the Burton/Taylor film version of Shakespeare’s original play, The Taming of The Shrew. You think you know the basic story: boisterous gold-digging Petruchio “tames” the shrewish Kate. But what if the reality of the play is different? What if a close reading reveals that it’s actually Kate that’s doing the taming?
There’s one way for you to find out –- it’s time, as Cole Porter famously wrote, to “Brush Up Your Shakespeare.” Our reading of The Taming of the Shrew begins today and continues our year-long group read of Shakespeare, “The Play’s the Thing.”
You can join in the fun here.
