The recent Homer 3.0 conference in Berlin was abuzz with the rumor that Amazon plans to start selling a serious selection of German-language e-books starting at the beginning of 2011. According to Buchmarkt, attendees of the conference reported that Amazon is currently in negotiations with German publishers.

The Kindle has been available in Germany for just over a year but, to this point, Kindle owners in Germany have been limited almost exclusively to English-language e-books. While the Kindle is estimated to hold a 70% share of the e-reader market in the US, it is yet to make a splash in Germany due in large part to its insufficient German-language content.
