I have several friends who are writers who don’t seem to have a home, but instead travel from artist colony to artist colony — with irregular stops at universities for teaching gigs and home to sort the mail. Thinking of those homeless nomads, I thought it would be a good idea to starting highlighting opportunities for writers around the world when they arise.

The first we’d like to mention is ARTErra, a new artist retreat in the village of Tondela in central Portugal. The facility is just about finished being built and has started taking applications for residencies. Writers, as well as artists of all kinds, may apply. Check out the guidelines here or email arterra.geral@gmail.com.

Of course, if you hear of any cool or interesting opportunities, let us know. And in the meantime browse the listings at ResArtis.com, where you’ll find a guide to artists colonies and residences around the world.
