Talk about affordable…UK companies Ergo Electronics and Gardners Books announced at the Gardners Books Tradeshow on Sunday the release of the GoTab with Hive Reader. The 6-inch device will start at just £59 (approximately $95). It runs a version of the Android 4 operating system and comes WiFi-ready.

Although Ergo and Gardners are calling the GoTab an “Android 4 eBook Reader,” it appears to be closer to a bargain-priced tablet in both functionality and hardware than simply an e-reader.

The GoTab will come preloaded with the Hive App, giving users immediate access to Hive, Gardners’ e-book and media store. Through Hive, consumers can attach their accounts to a particular bookstore, giving the chosen bookstore a share of their purchases made online.

In addition to Hive, the GoTab will also have access to over 400,000 apps through Google Play.

The GoTab will hit retailers in October, the same month as the Nook’s UK launch.
