With rumors surfacing yet again that HarperCollins is prepping to be sold (as discussed in today’s feature story), we wonder, would HarperCollins be better off outside Murdoch’s News Corp, where book publishing is decidedly not the top priority.

Would a different affiliation provide the publisher with more freedom? Investment? Motivation to succeed? Or does it not matter much at all, considering the lack of faith so many pundits — and Wall Street — seem to have in the traditional publishing model?
