Follett’s Fall of Giants E-Book Outsells Print in Spain

In Spain, amid all the Amazon buzz, prestigious bookseller Casa del Libro announced that a small bit of e-book history had been made, as the e-book edition of Ken Follett’s The Fall of Giants outsold the print edition in the company’s online store. The caveat is that online book sales in Spain are still tiny compared with in-store purchases, but the event does point to a growing audience for e-books, as well as proving the muscle of Casa del Libro’s established internet presence versus the recently revamped online bookstores from retail heavyweights El Corte Inglés and Fnac. That Follett was the author to break this particular sales record, on the other hand, is much less surprising — he’s been the bestselling foreign author in Spain since the publication there of The Pillars of the Earth in 1990.
