BERLIN: Author Rainer Schmidt has taken the art of word of mouth to a whole new level. Instead of relying on a friends, family members and the staff of his publisher, Kiepenheuer & Witsch, to talk up his book, he took the concept literally and filmed 300 people in Germany — ranging from DJs to writers to retirees — actually reading aloud the 300 pages of his novel Liebestänze (Love Dances).
Each “narrator” got a single page, and according to BuchMarkt, three new videos will be posted every day to www.liebestänze.de and www.MySpace.com/liebestaenze until the entire novel is available online. Oh, and if you’re interested in a printed copy, the book will be published September 24.
