This year, the International Rights Directors’ Meeting will focus on digital rights, and the challenges and opportunities new technology presents to rights directors.
The International Rights Directors’ Meeting will be held on October 5, the day before the show floor opens, from 2:00-5:00pm in the Europa conference room in Hall 4.0.
In an interview, Chairperson David Bowers, VP Global Development at Oxford University Press in New York, emphasized the importance of integrating new publishing technology into the industry: “New devices and platforms for content delivery have emerged and must now be considered standard outlets. […] the publishing industry must embrace these new products.”
Lynette Owen, Copyright Director at Pearson UK and another speaker, said rights professionals must adapt quickly, as “[t]here have been more developments in the area of verbatim e-book rights” because of the new ways of distributing content. This year’s Rights Directors’ Meeting is aimed at helping attendees adapt as quickly as possible by offering advice from experienced directors from around the world.
Online registration for the International Rights Directors’ Meeting is open now through September 30. Tickets are 150 Euros when paid in advance online, 180 Euros at the door.
