What is Glo.com? Publishing Perspectives interviewed Elizabeth Mackey (Sr. Business Development Manager, MSN Health & Lifestyle) about the launch of Glo.com, a new women’s lifestyle Web site from MSN.

Glo has a unique layout that looks more like a printed magazine than a Web site, save the navigation bar at the top and, of course, the social media sharing features. Lately, as Web development becomes more sophisticated, print-like layouts and typography are more widely used.

That a publication or piece of content is digital is no longer an excuse for poor design, and this is also increasingly true when it comes to e-books. Now that the technology is in place (both software and hardware) for creating and reading e-books, the next step is using that technology to help make the content interesting, appealing, and worth paying for.

What I like about Glo is that the design uses some conventions of traditional Web site layout, but is not bound by them. Maybe this is something to think about for your next e-book or Web project.
