The UK-based Forward Prizes have added a performed-poetry category, the winners of all four shortlists to be named in October.
Led by the American poet Danez Smith, this year’s trio of Forward Prize winners have collected a total £16,000 in prize money in the program’s Southbank Centre awards evening in London.
Poetry can ‘focus our attention and become a small present (in both senses of the word) in the middle of change,’ says one of the 12 poets selected for the UK’s BBC Local Radio participation in Forward Arts’ National Poetry Day 2018.
Ten books of poetry and five single poems are shortlisted for the 2018 edition of the UK’s Forward Poetry Prizes, which are to be awarded in London in September.
Entries open today (January 22) in the Forward Prizes in for Poetry, with a total purse of £16,000 (US$22,175) divided among three categories of work. Writing from the UK and Ireland is eligible.
The three winners of the Forward Prizes for Poetry have been announced. Now in their 26th year, the prizes aim to raise the visibility of poetry and poets.
With £16,000 (US$20,338) in prize money, Forward’s poetry awards honor single poems and collections, from new and familiar poets.
