Springer Nature this week announced the launch of Nature Books, a new imprint that the company says will combine “the research area expertise of in-house Nature Portfolio editors with Springer Nature’s leadership in academic books.”The imprint is aimed at academics, policymakers, and funders, and will publish works that bring together “expertise, evidence and insight on some of the most significant issues facing research and society today.”
In a release, reps said the new imprint will become part of Springer Nature’s broader books portfolio, which includes the Springer and Palgrave Macmillan brands, while giving authors the chance to work with “a specialized editorial board of in-house Nature Portfolio editors,” and to publish under a brand “recognized globally for scientific excellence and research quality.” Commissioning, peer review, and production for Nature Books will be handled by the Springer Nature books editorial teams, the release stated, adding that, where appropriate, proposals not accepted for Nature Books may be assessed for consideration to other Springer Nature book imprints.
“Books are an important part of the research ecosystem because they allow authors to explore complex questions with a depth and context that other formats cannot always provide. As the world’s largest academic book publisher, we’re committed to offering publishing options that support author choice and help maximize the reach and impact of their work,” said Harsh Jegadeesan, Springer Nature’s Chief Publishing Officer. “Nature Books is a clear example of that commitment.”
The first titles will launch later this year.
