No matter what we personally feel about artificial intelligence and its role in the publishing industry, no one can deny that this technology is here to stay and we must find a way to understand, accept, and implement it in the industry’s workflow in a smart, thoughtful way.As Dosdoce.com founder Javier Celaya said in the piece he wrote for Publishing Perspectives last month, “The leaders who will navigate the AI age most successfully will not be those who understand AI in an abstract sense, but those who understand it deeply enough to ask the right questions— of their teams, of their technology partners, and of the models themselves.”
That is true of all publishing professionals and that is the goal of a course that Publishing Perspectives is hosting at the start of 2027.
“AI in the Publishing Industry: A Workshop for Leaders and Doers” is a four-week online program and live seminar series designed to help publishing professionals at all levels have a better working knowledge of the technology as it adapts and changes, create systems for their teams, and even help set organizational guidelines around usage and protection.
The course will go from the basic language and ideas around AI to the more complex (and perhaps problematic) usage, the potential threats to the industry (beyond the obvious), and will even seek to help organizations set clear guidelines for their teams.
The program features live guest speaker sessions with recordings to reference later, self-paced assignments to practice what is learned, an AI policy framework that can be adapted for any organization, videos and reading materials to provide further knowledge and insight, and an opportunity to ask questions in live sessions or ongoing discussion groups in the online classroom.
Starting on January 21st, the live sessions will take place each Thursday for four weeks at 11am ET/4pm GMT/5pm CET.
The session titles are:
- What We Talk About When We Talk about AI
- Beyond the Headlines: Protections, Security, and the Realities of AI in Publishing
- How to Use AI in Your Workflow
- How to Feel Confident Using AI While Ensuring You’re Not Ruining the World, Breaking Copyright, or Compromising Your IP
I will be hosting each session, which will feature guest speakers from around the world who are experts on these areas of technology and publishing. Speakers will be announced later in the year.
