Next Tuesday, Publishing Perspectives and Digital Publishing Report will host the AI@media international conference which will go beyond the theoretical discussion around AI and explore practical applications of the technology in the publishing industry.

Darryll Colthrust, which Macmillan announced will be taking the newly-created role of CTO, will provide a keynote for the conference and talk about how he can bring his 20 years of experience working in technology to help not only Macmillan but the industry at large.

Colthrust, who does not take on his new role at Macmillan until April 7th, is currently cofounder and co-CEO of tech company Chaptr, which is backed by Holtzbrinck. Founded in 2022, Chaptr is a tech innovation company that helps provide solutions, three of which may be familiar to publishers – Reedy, Essence, and Amplify.

On taking on this newly-created role, Colthrust said, “I’m excited to lead Macmillan’s efforts in using the power of technology and innovation to support our authors, deepen our connection with readers, and shape the future of publishing in ways that amplify human creativity.”

The conference begins at 8am ET/1pm CET (unusual time difference due to different timing for Daylight Saving Time transition – the US has already sprung forward).

Topics and speakers include:

  • AI & Audio Innovation – Javier Celaya (Dosdoce) will delve into how AI-driven publishing solutions and audiobook production are opening new markets and revenue streams for publishers worldwide.
  • Metadata Intelligence – Sarah Arbuthnot (Supadu) explores how smart metadata powers discovery, drives direct-to-consumer growth, and makes content accessible across platforms and formats.
  • Women in AI & Publishing – A round-table conversation moderated by Emma House with leading experts shaping AI strategy in publishing, discussing implementation challenges, and why diverse perspectives matter in building publishing’s technological future. Featuring Arantza Larrauri, Meru Gokhale, and Brooke Dobson.
  • Case Studies – As well as case studies and presentations from companies working in the field, including Amlet, ONTEC AI, Pozitron, Textshine, and Veristage.
