Publishing Perspectives Staff Report
Nine Speakers in Three Hours
The newest in Bookwire‘s series of digital conference events, “All About Blockchain” on March 29 is a free, three-hour program subtitled “A New Era: How NFTs Can Revolutionize the Digital Publishing Market.” The event follows two international editions of Bookwire’s “All About Audio” in 2020 and 2021.With its organizers aiming the program at “publishers, creators, and media,” the event–starting at 3 p.m. CET / 13:00 GMT / 2 p.m. BST / 9 a.m. ET.—is open now for registration here. As in past iterations of its online conference events, Bookwire’s speakers will take audience questions.
“All About Blockchain” reflects Bookwire’s opening of its own NFT (non-fungible token) platform, Creatokia, announced by the company in May of last year.

John Ruhrmann
Bookwire’s co-founding managing director John Ruhrmann says in a prepared statement, “Blockchain technology, especially NFTs, are opening up a wide range of new opportunities for the book and creative industries.
“Therefore, it’s important to understand this technology in order to develop strategy. We want to inspire that with ‘All About Blockchain 2022.'”
At the Creatokia site, Creatokens are offered both in existing NFT products and in Creatokia Originals, such as the “Eternal Masterpiece” collection. The NFT editions of that collection “feature beautiful stained-glass artwork that literally shines a light on the author and their masterpieces,” according to its descriptive copy.
“Each NFT also features additional unlockables, such as an audio dramatization of iconic text passages of each book recorded by top-class speakers like Simon Callow or Adjoa Andoh and published as digital originals.”

The final session of “All About Blockchain” on March 29 is a presentation about Creatokia with Bookwire’s Eric Bartoletti and Carsten Lambrecht.
In its rationale for its engagement in NFTs and for the blockchain conference, Bookwire writes, “The topic is complex and we are only starting to discover best-practices for this format. Established permission standards, regulations, and laws are now catching up to the new technological possibilities of NFTs.
“In order to get a better understanding of the potential and impact of blockchain technology on the publishing industry, we need a closer exchange between blockchain and publishing experts.”
