Heading into spring this year, we are seeing more publishers in leading book markets think about the diversity of their authors, titles, and workforces. In some countries, initiatives are underway to encourage more diversity in the book industry. In other markets, such activities have not yet taken hold.In our Spring 2018 Magazine—which you can download here—Publishing Perspectives interviewed just a handful of the many people who are proactively working to bring more voices to the table. We’ve asked these people how we can make our industry and the books we publish reflect increasingly diverse populations in many countries. And we’ve asked them to articulate why this is important to publishers, readers, and society at large.
This issue also includes voices and opinions of publishing professionals from around the world, as well as news, market data, and author and publisher profiles. You’ll find:
- Publishers and Authors Promoting Diversity
- Profiles of Publishers from the Baltics
- Children’s Publishers on Creating More Readers
- Spring Rights Roundup
- Brief News Headlines from International Publishing
- Growing Demand for English-Language Learning Material
- Global Market Statistics
- Upcoming Publishing Event Listings
Alongside editorial coverage from Publishing Perspectives, this magazine includes rights listings from IPR License. Both organizations are affiliated with the Frankfurter Buchmesse, which endeavors, as part its mission, to promote publishing worldwide. Using different methods and offerings, both Publishing Perspectives and IPR License provide services to the book industry aimed at connecting publishers and supporting international exchange.
