France’s Syndicat National de l’Edition (SNE) has launched a campaign aimed at raising awareness of the ongoing debate and encouraging readers to support the fight for a lower VAT on ebooks.

A dedicated website, available in French and English, suggests readers “[t]ell the European Commission (@EU_Commission) about what is a book and what is not a book” by taking pictures of everyday objects and their favourite books and ebooks, and posting them online with the hashtag #ThatIsNotABook and #ThatIsABook, respectively with the European Commission in mind.

“The French Publishers Association, with the support of French and European publishers, the Italian publishers association, and many artistic and politic personalities, relies on you to launch a European movement against ebook discrimination,” the Association said.
