Exprima Talks, led by Corey Pressman of Exprima Media and conducted for Publishing Perspectives, is a series of discussions with people thinking and tinkering in the space of reading.
In this video interview conducted at Digital Book World 2014, Corey Pressman talks with Sherisse Hawkins and Alex Milewski about Beneath the Ink, a startup that allows authors to add enhanced content to their ebooks, but “in a very subtle way,” says Hawkins, “that gives the reader a choice” whether to dive into this extra content or to continue reading. The additional content is author-generated, which allows authors to purposefully tailor the reading experience.
Author Emma Boling, also interviewed in this video, said that she created spreadsheets to map the flow of her book, Mistress of France, and how she could integrate additional content that would be useful to the reader, but not overwhelming.
Beneath the Ink and Emma Boling won a 2014 Digital Book World award in the “Ebook Fixed Format/Enhanced – Adult Fiction” category for Mistress of France.
