This fall Cambridge University Press welcomes its rivals to its digital platform, reports the Bookseller.

CUP is gearing up its launch of an all-embracing, non-competitive digital content platform entitled University Publishing Online, to benefit libraries around the world. From October 2011, CUP will aggregate “eBooks and relatable database products” from a variety of academic publishers in order to provide libraries with a one-stop shop for all important digital, academic content. The functionality of University Publishing Online will mirror CUP’s already successful Cambridge Books Online platform. University Publishing Online will offer library institutions two purchasing plans.

Boydell & Brewer, Liverpool University Press, the Mathematical Association of America, and Foundation Books have already joined in, with further partners to be announced throughout the week. CUP reps predict University Publishing Online “will become one of the largest and most significant repositories of digital academic material in the world.”
