Today’s lead story by Angela K. Durden describes self-publishing in the terms of a cottage industry. She is particularly appreciative of the independence it gives her.
Self-publishing implies independence, but is that description still accurate when a self-publisher relies on large corporations like Lulu.com to produce their books and Ingram and Amazon to distribute them? Doesn’t “cottage industry” imply a more disciplined dedication to DIY?
