31st International Book Fair of Santiago, Chile Opens October 28

By Andres Hax

The International Book Fair of Santiago, Chile (FILSA) opens on October 28 and will run through November 13. The event takes place in the Mapocho train station, which has been converted into a cultural center, and more than 400 writers will converge in the capital of Chile to participate in conferences, round tables, concerts and book launches.

“This year there will be more foreign writers than ever,” said Arturo Infante, president of the Camara Chilena del Libro. In total 220 companies and 700 editorial houses will take part.

Featured speakers include Pedro Huerta, the executive director of Kindle in Latin America, and Pablo Arrieta, one of the leading voices in Latin America concerning digital content and author’s online rights.

One of the highlights of the fair will be the Dialogue on Latin American Narrative, where emerging voices will participate in various debates.

In all, some 260,000 people are expected to attend.
