The Digital Innovators: Henry Volans of Faber Digital

• The third in our series of video interviews with digital innovators from the UK features a discussion with Henry Volans, head of digital development at Faber.

• He talks about his career, Faber’s digital strategy, and the current state of e-publishing in the UK today. “The ‘e’ prefix is misleading,” says Volans. “The term ‘book’ is all that matters. It’s all that should matter.”

LONDON: In the third of our ongoing series of interviews with digital innovators from the UK, we spoke to Henry Volans, head of digital development at Faber.

Henry Volans grew up in Scotland and studied English at Cambridge. He started his publishing career at Canongate in Edinburgh (after selling cheese professionally). Six years ago he moved to Faber, working in an editorial position, commissioning non-fiction. Later he moved into developing audiobooks, ebooks and now digital projects — that may or may not involve books — as the head of a new division called Faber Digital.
