Majority of You Are Not Riding the Vampire Novel Wave

By Hannah Johnson

Thank you to everyone who took this week’s poll asking how many vampire novels you’ve read this year. It seem that in the opinion of Publishing Perspectives readers, vampire novels may have jumped the shark. Here are the results of our poll:

The overwhelming majority, 64% of respondents, said they have not read a single vampire novel this year (this was actually a surprise to me). But 20% of you have at least dipped your toe in the waters of vampire fiction and read one vampire novel. On the other end of the spectrum, a brave 2% of our poll-takers said they’ve read more than 5 vampire novels this year.

Does this mean the vampire trend is over? What is the next craze? I’m putting my money on dystopian teen novels in which young people save the world (oh wait, I think I just described the plot of half the world’s YA novels).

Look for next week’s poll on Monday!

Official Poll Results for “How many vampire novels have you read this year:”

5 – 4%
3 – 2%
2 – 0%
1 – 20%
0 – 64%
over 5 – 2%

Vampires are so obvious and rather crass. How about some subtlety
