Indie Bookstore for Sale at BookExpo: “Rare Opportunity!”
May 27, 2010
By Karen Holt
Where would you advertise if you had a bookstore to sell? Why not a booksellers convention?
That’s what one independent bookstore store owner is doing. A woman — she says she was hired by the owner but isn’t authorized to reveal the name of the store of its owner — walked the convention floor Wednesday carrying a “For Sale” sign. Asked for details, she handed out a one-page marketing pitch that touts: “Rare Opportunity! Popular New England Independent Bookstore for Sale.”
The seven-year-old, 2,500-square-foot bookstore is located in a “historic house in the charming downtown center.” According to the marketing pitch, health problems prevent the owner from “continuing to provide the focus and energy a great independent bookstore requires.” For more information, email, newenglandbookstore@gmail.com. Or just look for the woman with the sign.
