Canceled flights, hotel receptionists that won’t refund your room deposit, thwarted plans…Iceland’s volcanic eruption is throwing travel to the UK into disarray and the skies over London may not clear till Monday. Liz Bury discusses the situation in more detail in today’s lead story. Still, the London Book Fair is an important fixture on many the publishing calendar. Tell us, if you’re canceled, will you rebook for the fair? If so, what are you most looking forward to at this year’s LBF?

I am in London at present and tried to get back to Frankfurt today which I will make by train.
I had intended coming to LIBF on Monday and Tuesday, but I am not going to go through traffic hassle another time.

Fly out tomorrow speak at two sessions and meetings all week. No word yet from BA but getting anxious. Hope there is a virtual way for us to present — a digital e-talk. (:

I’m going in to ILBF through Eurostar, which is now all booked out. Actually have one of those meetings with Brad (mentioned above) that may not happen. Someone I know who used to work at Brussels airport says all the PR bulletins airports and airlines are giving out are just that, PR. Everything’s closed in Northern Europe at least until mid-afternoon Monday. That’s why Ryan Air shut-up shop for the weekend. They know nothing’s happening air-wise for a while.
I’m looking forward to alternative sessions and connections at the ILBF 2010. Traditional publishing is of little interest, as they are in continual catch-up or ignorance mode. Last year was good for the fringe, where the action’s at, but since corporates are where the booth money is, wonder how relevant the Fair will be this year for what’s going on mightily on the edge of things….
